As Slow As Possible


The 639-year-long performance of John Cage’s famous composition As Slow As Possible is an anomaly in this modern age dominated by speed and short-term thinking. On the event of each chord change, enthusiasts from all over the world descend upon the sleepy town of Halberstadt, Germany and gather inside a medieval church to engage with time on a different scale.

September 5, 2020 – Rainer Neugebauer with the John Cage Organ Foundation addresses the crowd of press and Cage enthusiasts from all over the globe who have assembled in Halberstadt, Germany despite the Covid-19 pandemic to witness the 15th note change in the performance of Organ2/ASLSP.
